A La Mobile Unveils First Google Android Handset
San Ramon, Calif. based A La Mobile has introduced the first prototype handset using Google’s new Android platform.
Dedicated to Linux-based “open” mobile devices, A La Mobile is the first to demonstrate the promise of Android. “There can be a lot more customization, reducing the cost of devices as well as development time,” says CEO Pauline Lo Alker.
The handset used for the platform is the Qtek 9090 from HTC. Some of the features include a Google browser, phone dialer for voice calls, audio player, Google maps, camera, games, calendar, contacts manager, calculator and notes. A La Mobile is confident they can pitch this setup to handset makers with some success.
HTC is one of 34 members of Google’s Open Handset Alliance. T-Mobile and Sprint are also in the group, although Sprint is waiting to see what the final product will look like before fully committing. AT&T and Verizon are also taking a wait-and-see approach.
