Apple Stays Strong, Now With Mac Leading the Charge

apple_rainbow_logo___think_different_1280blasck.jpgAt a time when some expected Apple’s hot ride to slow down, brisk sales of Macs during Q2 saw Apple exceed earnings expectations and keep their stock sky-high, if not higher.

The $7.5 billion in March quarter sales is an increase of 43% over last year. While iPhone and iPod sales were relatively close to expectations, over a quarter of a million more Macs (with their high price tags) were sold than industry insiders projected. Apparently, consumers are satisfied with the current iMac as sales were 50% higher than the same time last year.

There is news out there now that the 3G iPhone may be headed to shelves in mid-Summer, with a fortunate few already testing out the new model. Besides 3G functionality, the phone will feature true GPS support. Otherwise, thus far, it doesn’t appear there are any other major changes. The model has a different back and is a bit thicker (still no way to remove the battery), but no word on any changes in the battery life.

Word is that the iMac is getting a boost with Intel Penryn technology, although this won’t exactly be an earth shattering change, especially since one of the big advantages of the Penryn is its power-saving properties that would benefit notebooks far more than desktop computers.
