The new iPhone is receiving near-universal praise from tech circles, and there’s plenty of reasons why. It’s powerful, cheaper, and cooler than anything out there. The original iPhone reports customer satisfaction that is off the charts, and the next gen iPhone is even faster. Add to this a built-in iPhone store combined with the iPhone’s upcoming availability in far more markets than it’s in now, and it seems as though Google Android developers would be jumping ship, if only for their own good.

The idea of a coin operated WiFi vending machine isn’t a new one. In fact, the first such stories about it originate from early 2004. However, it hasn’t really gotten off the ground yet, but Taiwanese hotspot base station designer Handlink may be on their way to delivering on the promise.

Their KS-852 model sort of looks like a giant walkie-talkie with a coin slot in it. Though the machine doesn’t take paper cash or credit cards, it will take the change in your pocket. After inputting your coins, it spits out a piece of paper giving you the passcode and advising you of how much time you have. Once you run out, simply go back and feed the meter.

Tomorrow, Steve Jobs will presumably unveil the new 3G iPhone in front of Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference. The anticipation has been pretty remarkable, even by tech-geek standards.

Already, breathless bloggers have been critiquing pictures of the new iPhone. One problem: the pictures appear to be fake. Very good fakes, but fake nonetheless. It didn’t stop Crunchgear from showing the photos with the headline, “Breaking: Exclusive leaked pics of the iPhone 2! Thinner design? Check! Different colors? Check! Video chatting? Check and check!” True excitement.

Twitter going down pretty much the norm, but big ol’ Amazon.com featured an hour and half of downtime today, probably costing them something close to $3 million of revenue.

There is some speculation that the new 60GB Playstation 3 bundle, which sold out on Costco.com BEFORE the time Costco stated it would begin selling the much-desired PS3, was the cause of the failure on Amazon, but that’s just speculation. It does make sense, though considering the short supply of the bundle and the frantic refreshing undoubtedly being done by Playstation-crazy gamers.

Amazon likely made up most of their revenue after the site came back up. But it reveals how tenuous and precious server functionality is, and if anybody should know how to keep their site up, it’s Amazon..

About a month ago, Comcast announced that it was going to confine its users to 250GB a month in bandwidth usage before implementing overage charges. Now, they’re testing a new method that will throttle heavy users during peak hours regardless of what users are utilizing the bandwidth for.

Comcast has come under fire for “delaying,” as they call it, P2P traffic during peak hours. “Delaying” is Comcast’s legalese word for “blocking,” and the FCC decided that it needed to get involved earlier this year. “Comcast blocking BitTorrent is the canary in the coal mine for corporations that seek to take over the Internet,” said Free Press‘ Ben Scott earlier this year. “The FCC should immediately stop Comcast from blocking Internet traffic and then proceed with this important investigation and public comment process. It’s high time to involve the American public in this matter.”
