Charlie Rose Mangles Himself to Save Macbook Air
The picture says it all: Charlie Rose, while negotiating a New York City pothole, lost balance and chose to sacrifice his face in order to save his Macbook Air.
Of course, there’s some argument whether or not its worth it, as the Macbook Air has it’s share of critics. One of the most common complaints is its rather short battery life. Thinness is nice, but how thin does it need to be to be worth taking off hours of usage time, especially since it doesn’t have a user-replaceable battery?
Word on the street from SXSWi is that Asus’ eee PC was more popular than the Macbook air. The eee PC doesn’t have a hard drive, and the base model runs on Linux (it is offered with Windows XP also). It uses 2 or 4GB of flash memory in a solid-state drive for its purposes as basically a highly mobile, small, cheap internet connection device. Since a lot of people to most of their mobile work directly through the Internet utilizing remote servers from the likes of Amazon and Google, documents no longer need to be backed up on a hard drive, so for many the eee PC fulfills many people’s notebook computing needs.
The 2GB model sells for about $300 while the 4GB sells for $400. The Macbook Air, while bigger and more powerful, sells for a base price of $1800, the same as a 24-inch iMac.
