Pudding Media Gets $8 Million to Advertise On Phone Calls

puddinglogo.pngPudding Media, a voice monetization company, has raised $8 million from Opus and BRM Capital in a push to place contexual ads in phone conversations, proving there aren’t too many stones left unturned in the quest to advertise.

This will of course be an opt-in feature that will give users a discount on their phone coverage if they choose to receive the ads.

“Pudding Media is leading a very important shift in communications, creating a new revenue stream for voice providers and giving customers a way to save money on calls,” said Ken Elefant of Opus Capital. “By converging advertising and telecommunications, Pudding Media is establishing an entirely new market category. We’re very excited to see where they will take it.”

Supposedly, the idea here is to make this available for all voice providers, whether it be Verizon, Vonage, or Charter.

But will you be able to save enough money to make it worth listening to ads over the phone? Also, will the ads break into the conversations? It would be pretty irritating to the person on the other line. I’d assume that the ads would feature before as the call is being placed, but what if it’s an urgent call? I’d assume Pudding Media has some good answers for this if they managed to raise $8 million.

It’s worth a shot, I suppose.
