Slydial: A Service Sent From Heaven
Now this is something I’ve been waiting for my whole life. Do you have a situation where protocol requires placing a phone call, but you really would prefer not having to talk to the person on the other end? For instance, perhaps you caught something “social” during a trip to Vegas a few weeks back and need to alert an ex-girlfriend?
This is where Slydial comes in: even if the person on the other end is present and willing to answer the phone, Slydial sends you straight to voicemail. So the other person thinks they dropped the call and you get off scot-free without having to confront a potentially awkward phone conversation.
It does only work for mobile phones, obviously, but that’s fine. It’s free of charge, with about fifteen seconds of ads you have to listen to before leaving the voice mail.
I tested it out just a minute ago, and it didn’t go exactly as promised. I dialed 267-SLYDIAL and entered the number of the person I wanted to leave a message with (make sure you know the number, since I don’t know any numbers anymore). The first time, the phone rang and showed that I called, but only rang for one second–not long enough to pick up, but enough for the person to perhaps call me back (may want to call from work or a pay phone to be safe, or any number the person wouldn’t have stored in their phone). It did successfully leave the message, though, without talking to the person. The second try worked as advertised: no ringing and straight to voicemail.
I get the feeling George Costanza from Seinfeld would have been a big fan of Slydial.
