Wordpress 2.5 Finally Arrives
Wordpress version 2.5 has hit the blogosphere with a healthy number of improvements to the previous version. Wordpress founder Matthew Mullenweg has a long post on the Wordpress blog that explains some of the changes, but I’ll go ahead and hit you with the highlights.
One of the main improvements is the elimination of dashboard clutter. One of the main complaints about previous Wordpress versions was the disorganized look to dashboard, and the developers took this to heart and streamlined it so you could focus on writing your blog.
It’s also a good idea to add a new widget that gives you a series of interesting stats that lets you know how your site is doing. The Wordpress.com stats widget is a plugin you can add directly to your dashboard that shows a graph of your traffic and some statistics to measure how your posts and pages are being viewed.
Also, now there is an upload bar that shows the status of your uploads so you’re not in the dark, waiting out large file uploads. Additionally, multiple photos and files can be uploaded simultaneously now, making everything move a little more quickly.
I like to use both Firefox and Safari sometimes in different Mac spaces, and Wordpress and Safari just don’t seem to get along very well. Though I’ve not tested it, Mullenweg is promising better cooperation with the Apple browser. I’ll believe it when I see it.
So, after much delay, the new version is here. Now we’ll see how it actually works.
