Yahoo Signs Mobile Ad Deal With T-Mobile
This is likely to be a big year for mobile advertising, given the explosion in browsing technology on mobile handsets, and Yahoo is trying to take the lead in the mobile ad targeting arena.
Today, they signed a deal to provide ads to T-Mobile Web ānā Walk web browsing platform in the UK. This goes on top of other deals they have made with Vodafone, Telefonica, and American Movil in recent months.
Yahoo also emphasized improvements in its mobile capabilities in the recent Consumer Electronics Show, unveiling a series of updates for their mobile services and widgets.
While Google is concentrating on building their own platform that its applications can function on, Yahoo is choosing to integrate their capabilities onto already existing platforms created by the mobile providers. This gives them the advantage of being able to reach millions in a shorter amount of time.
Mobile providers seem to trust Yahoo’s ad targeting abilities, and it will be interesting to see how targeted ads play out in the mobile arena. Location, device type, and time of day are all possible ways to target ads, and this kind of personal, specific ad targeting could give mobile a big edge in many internet marketing situations.
